Mt Cook with Jamie & Karl

9.6.14  POST CATEGORY  :
Before Marc's brother Karl and his partner Jamie head back to Canada they thought they'd come and see a bit of the South Island. Jamie's Mum even flew in from Canada to join them. So day two after they arrived we headed off to Mt Cook with the car packed to the hilt!! A compulsory stop at the Fairlie Bakehouse was on the agenda of course, but about 20mins in to the drive Genevieve pipes up about the key for the hut - like do we have the key? We didn't!! So Genevieve hopped in the other car with Karl, Jamie and Doreen and they really got to see every little bit of Fairlie while we went back to Timaru... Luckily that was the only thing we forgot!! A 'real' kiwi hut, where what counts is the view and the sounds, which included avalanches - very cool!

Raindrops In The Bedroom

2.8.13  POST CATEGORY  :  Personal | Children | Family
It was all secret squirrel, the night before my sister left and went back to work in Dunedin - Genevieve had a surprise up her sleeve, although she was struggling to contain herself and not spill the beans...

On Friday morning Marc had the day off and we thought yeah, a sleep in, but no, it wasn't to be. Genevieve came bounding into the bedroom... "Dad, can you please light the fire, I've got so much work to do". "It's probably not that cold downstairs, why don't you pop down and see?" This was quickly replied with "I'll freeze to death" but she marched off downstairs 'to check'. Moments later she was back... "It's only 16 degrees! I can't work in that!" - guess who had to get up and light the fire?

She worked away on 'her surprise' for hours and then once it got dark Nicci, Graham (another friend who had come for tea) and I got invited upstairs to the spare bedroom. It was totally dark, then the sound of heavy rain and thunder started. Marc duly stood beside the light switch to control the 'lightning' which exposed an entire wall covered in hand coloured raindrops that Genevieve had made + a tree, a flower and a bush with a weed beside it. Apparently there had to be a weed because "Mum's garden has weeds" - great!

I took these photos the morning after the storm had passed and the sun had come out... (and yes I know the walls are yellow and purple, we'll get to them one day! lol!) Click to view full blog post

Melissa's Baptism

28.3.13  POST CATEGORY  :  Personal | Family | Celebration
Our very good friends', Mark and Anne had the privilege of being part of their youngest daughters' baptism celebrations last Saturday afternoon. It was a hot sunny day - perfect for a dunk in the sea!! Melissa shared her story of how she had come to faith in Jesus Christ which all began when she was living in Ecuador. Quite a few tears were shared, Melissa's, then her Dad's... which of course meant that I ended up crying, because they were crying! Melissa has been like a big sister to Genevieve and she truly loves her!!! Coming up to the end of last year when she was getting ready to go of to high school Genevieve would routinely pray for her that she 'would make nice new friends at high school' - really these guys are family! You know, the family you get to choose!!!

Well done Melissa, you're an awesome young lady who we love a lot!!! Click to view full blog post

Reading Glasses

3.9.12  POST CATEGORY  :  Personal | Children | Family
Part of the any girl's essential bag of tricks is a good pair of reading glasses... I had just put Genevieve to bed and was about to read her a story when she declared "Hang on a minute, I'll just get my reading glasses!" Off she dash's down the stairs and comes back in due course wearing a pair of 3D glasses purchased from the movie theatre. What a pile of giggling girls we collapsed into, such a great laugh ;D  Click to view full blog post

Cards & Layouts

27.7.12  POST CATEGORY  :  Personal
Every now and then I enjoy making a few cards and the odd scrapbook layout. In the last week of the school holidays my sister was up from Dunedin so that seemed the perfect excuse to do some 'craft time' together - such fun!!! (We also watched a spot of Miranda - can you tell?!) Anyway here's a few of the bits that I made.... I was really on a roll and made 8 different cards, boom , boom, boom! I even impressed myself! lol

Iv'e been collecting old children's books at bookaramas - perfect for ripping up - does feel a bit sacrilegious through! And the scrapbook layout was for a friends Colour Competition I thought I'd have a go at entering. Click to view full blog post
